घनाक्षरी की लोकप्रियता का एक कारण यह है कि इसकी आठ पंक्तियाँ लगभग पैंतीस सेकंड में पूरी हो जाती हैं और श्रोता को पंच के लिए अधिक समय तक प्रतीक्षा नहीं करनी पड़ती। करीब पंद्रह साल पहले जब चरण जीत चरण कवि सम्मेलन में आए तो उन्होंने घनाक्षरी को एक नई और सबसे सुरीली आवाज और अंदाज में पेश किया। जो श्रोताओं के दिल में बैठ गया | चरण जीत चरण मूलतः गीत और ग़ज़ल के कवि हैं, लेकिन मंच पर चरण जीत चरण की पहचान एक राष्ट्रवादी कवि के रूप में है।
