कवि सम्मेलन जबसे वजूद में आया है | हिंदी कविता की तमाम विधाओं का कुछ न कुछ योगदान कवि सम्मेलन की छवि को बनाने और सुधरने में रहा है | लेकिन गीत को कवि सम्मेलन की रीढ़ कह सकते हैं | कवि सम्मेलन से यदि गीत को अलग कर दिया जाए तो कवि सम्मेलन का सम्पूर्ण व्यक्तित्व प्राणहीन प्रतीत होता है | समय-समय पर बहुत से गीतकार आए हैं जिन्होंने कवि सम्मेलन में प्राण तत्व का संचार किया है |
चन्दन राय करीब बारह वर्षों से मंच पर सक्रिय हैं | गीत लिखना एक अलग बात है | गीत की प्रस्तुति अलग बात है | जब मंच के लिए गीत लिखा जाता है तो लेखन के साथ प्रस्तुति भी महत्वपूर्ण हो जाती है | प्रस्तुति की यह कला सबको नसीब भी नहीं होती | बहुत सारे लोग बहुत अच्छे गीत लिखते हैं | परन्तु प्रस्तुति बहतर न होने के कारण लोकप्रिय नहीं हो पाते हैं | चन्दन राय की प्रस्तुति का उन्हें बाकी गीतकारों से बहतर बनाने में बड़ा योगदान है | चन्दन राय की आवाज में एक खनक और दर्द सुनने वाले को महसूस होता है | वः मंच पर प्रेम और संवेदना का एक ऐसा वातावरण बना देते हैं | जिसका नशा श्रोताओं में बैठे हर शख़्स पर चढ़ ही जाता है |
Ever since Kavi Sammelan came into existence. All genres of Hindi poetry have had some contribution in creating and improving the image of Kavi Sammelan.
